Mark Johnstons Shamardal has been slashed to as short as 3/1 for next years 2000 Guineas after his hugely impressive victory in the Group 1 Darley Dewhust Stakes at Newmarket on Saturday.
The unbeaten son of Giants Causeway simply ran his rivals ragged, making all under Kevin Darley on the rain softened ground to beat Aidan OBriens Oratorio by two-and-a-half lengths, with Montgomerys Arch a further neck back in third.
The manner in which he stayed on suggests the colt will have few problems staying the guineas trip (one mile) and on paper, he thoroughly deserves his place at the head of the market.
Both William Hill and Bet Direct make him a 3/1 chance, whilst Coral sill offer a generous looking 5/1.
