Following the announcement of the Short List for the Man Booker Prize, William Hill have installked David Mitchell's 'Cloud Atlas' as the hottest favourite ever to win the Prize at odds of 5/4.
Hills make Alan Hollinghurst 5/2 second favourite with 'The Line of Beauty', with Colm Toibin's 'The Master' their 4/1 third favourite, ahead of 10/1 shots The Electric Michelangelo by Sarah Hall and Gerrard Woodward's 'I'll Go To Bed At Noon' while Achmat Dangor is the complete outsider of the field at 12/1 with 'Bitter Fruit'.
'In betting terms the Pirze has been a two horse race all the way through, with Mitchell being backed even before the Long List was announced and Hollinghurst the only other contender to attract serious support.
From a bookie's point of view if neither of the favourites win we'll be laughing, but with Mitchell the hottest favourite ever at this stage and Hollinghurst not far behind, that seems unlikely.
We expect that around a quarter of a million pounds will be at stake on the result making it the biggest betting Booker ever.' said William Hill spokesman Graham Sharpe.
