Luiz Felipe Scolari is the latest favourite on Betfair's next Newcastle manager market after being sensationally backed down from 199-1 to 3-1 this morning. Newcastle certainly need a managerial maestro to turn their season around and "Big Phil" certainly has a suitable CV, having guided Brazil to the World Cup and Portugal to the Euro 2004 finals.
But surely he would have his hands full with an injury-prone squad, and presumably limited money to spend in the close season. Scolari was introduced into Betfair's betting at 4pm yesterday afternoon, when one punter got £2 at 199-1 and another a tenner at 149-1. But at the height of the gamble this morning someone had £394 on him at 3-1.
His price has drifted slightly to 5-1 but he remains the favourite in a predictably volatile market.
