Germany v England
|
The pre-match odds
of 2/1 for an England victory seemed a distant
thought when Germany opened the scoring
after just seven minutes. With the home
side winning, 6/1 was the best price on
offer for England to be the eventual winners.
By the time England
had taken the lead through Gerrard, the
price for an England victory had become
2/1 on. These odds would continue to shorten
as the away team scored each goal.

There can not have been
too many predictions that England would score
more than three goals. However Bet365 were offering
7/1 for England to achieve such a feat as well
as 10/1 for the visitors to win both halves.
Before this match Michael
Owen had never scored more than one goal in the
same International. Despite his exceptional form
this season; a hat-trick from the Liverpool star
was not expected. Bet365 were however prepared
for such a scenario with a price of 33/1.
The Readabet Spread
betting forecast had suggested a sell on IG'S
Win Index for Germany. The quote for the triple
World Cup winners was 13.5-15 (25pts/win, 10pts/draw,
0pts/loss) with IG index.
This meant that a draw
would be sufficient to show a profit while an
England victory would give a maximum profit.
Due to the margin of victory
achieved by England, a number of the markets on
the spreads produced higher than expected make-ups.
The goal minutes for Michael Owen (pre-match quote
of 17-20) however deserve a special mention. The
star striker scored after 13, 48 and 66 minutes
to give a total of 127 goal minutes, which would
have netted buyers a massive 107pts profit.
