Play-Offs...any ideas? |
|
|
It's the time when the nerve-ends are jangling, the play-offs, it seems the odds at the moment are in the order of:-
Div 1.....Wolves 2/1, B'ham 5/2, Millwall 3/1, Norwich 10/3
Div 2......Cardiff 2/1, B'ford 12/5, Stoke 3/1, H'fld 7/2
Div 3......Chelt'm 11/5, R+D 9/4, Hart'pl 3/1, Rochdle 16/5
I refuse to back Wolves ( don't let me put you off though) so I will leave Div 1 alone,
Div 2 , I will go for Stoke because they are fairly local to me and can be stubbourn so-and-so's and will be difficult to beat on their day...
Div 3 , the value has to be Hartlepool, heady heights for them, I just get the feeling this is their year and they will give it 110%...
There you go, 2 Singles at about 3/1 and a Double, what do you reckon? Worth a small flutter or ??? good luck.
Wolf. |

Ok now i am impressed with this website. A really informative article.
I have to say i am almost tempted to bet on Norwich at 5/1. I just have this sneaky feeling for Millwall though. Sorry i can't display the same level of knowledge as others on this forum in this section anyway. |

I think Cardiff in the second division is a really good shout. Being the form team will be a huge help - the past history of the play-offs prove it. Shame the bookies arent being a little more generous with their odds.
As for the third division - i dont buy into this theory that just because 7 out of 9 times the highest placed team gets promoted. I am sure this is just a freak occurrence. The only way we shall ever know i suppose is in another 10 years or so when there have been many more play-offs.
I wait with interest. |

It was a lot to get through that article but hopefully a few winning bets have been found.
A possible consideration may be to lay Wolves on the betting exchange. I am sure there would be loads of takers for that. |

| Norwich are the form team but both Millwall and Birmingham are also bang in form. I would not be surprised in the slightest if the winner of the play-offs comes from one of these two teams - that is assuming there are enough players left over from the semis when they will no doubt kick lumps out of each other (which leads me to tip a buy of the bookings for both legs) |

Some very interesting points have been made about the
play-offs both on this forum and in readabet's preview.
The pick of suggestions seem to be a sell of Wolves and
a buy of Birmingham/Millwall bookings.
A further 'interesting' point is that readabet's preview
appeared earlier this week with a lot of emphasis on stats,
including the statement "Many people believe the play-offs
are a lottery". Today - The Racing Post did their preview of
the play-offs, agreed with readabet on Cardiff, but headlined
their article "Cardiff can land play-off Lottery". I wonder if this is
a challenge to readabet?
In support of readabet's article, Norwich must be worth a small
interest at 5-1 (Thats what the stats say). |

Anyone with any mathematical knowledge will know full well that a sample of nine seasons is not ideal for such a study. Yes the preview makes some very good observations but does it really mean anything. It has already been mentioned earlier but we shall only really ever know the real story in many years when there is ample more evidence. So the Racing Post does have it right when they say the Play-Offs are a lottery.
Now having said all that Norwich at 5/1 do look interesting considering they go into their match with Wolves with absolutely no pressure whatsoever on them and this could be the key to the tie. Wolves have already proved their vulnerability to pressure in the final games of the season when they had to win to stay in second place. They couldn't cope with the pressure then and so are unlikely to cope with the pressure starting on Sunday.
The final in my opinion will be between Norwich vs Millwall or put in another way READABET VS RACING POST - could this become a regular battle between the masters of betting reporting and what seems to be the up and coming betting website? Who knows but time will only tell. My money is on the Post for this battle (Millwall for those not following my riddles).
Good Luck |

| Rogue - I wouldn't go as far as saying that this is a battle between Racing Post and Readabet - i think Readabet are a little of the pace at the moment - for one theres no racing on this site!! |

Dont forget that the Racing Post started off small aswell.
Look upon this difference of opinion as a battle and not the war.
It is better to concentrate on specialist areas and expand only
when ready. |

| How the referee only booked 2 people in the Birmingham match i will never know - Dion Dublin should never have been on the pitch to score the equaliser. |

| Although there is still two games to go, i may have been a little hasty in putting down the play-off case study - we shall see. |

I am now in mourning... |
|
|
Division 1 again next season, Baggies up, MM @ Millwall could rub salt in the wound, any sympathy out there from you lot?
I was waiting tonight to have a go at readabet, read this :
"Wolves are 8/11 favourites to win the match with Norwich available at a potentially lucrative 4/1. The home side should just edge the encounter although probably by not enough to win the tie. Considering Wolves’ brittle confidence and unpredictable nature of recent years, this fixture should be left alone in the betting stakes."
How bloomin' accurate can you get, even readabet don't like us!!
Anyway, Hartlepool just failed , Stoke are battling on with my dosh , but the final irony will be with Millwall tomorrow, Mr M will move on and dump Brum and at 11/10 ( I've taken 6/5 for the match on an exchange).
I shall now go and consume a bottle of rouge and a 4-pack and drown my sorrows....all flowers this way please...and please, don't mention the Baggies or MM....good luck
Wolf. |

Cheer up Wolf - Your stoke tip is looking good now - esp. after they came back against Cardiff (talk about choking it)
I may be wise after the event but why did reada close out on Norwich so early.
Good to see the Millwall/Brum preview going along with me on the books.
Lets hope for loads of flying elbows now and this time referee - take bloody notice |
