88th
minute strike vital to Fat Lady
Market

Fixed Odds
It was of course no great shock to see Michael
Owen tuck away his chance just before the break.
His price of 5/2 was noted in the preview as not
representing the best value, but was ignored due
to his current form.
There can be no striker playing with the confidence
that the young England man has right now. The
earlier chances allowed Owen to set his sights,
before he unleashed a delicious volley past the
stranded goalkeeper.
Head to Head Betting
For Albania this was only the second match of
their qualifying game that has resulted in a conceded
first half goal. Even then it was only just before
the break. The average time for their first conceded
goal before last night had been around the 60
minutes mark.
The goalless first 10 minutes was as a result
not unexpected, despite the early onslaught by
England. The head to head verdict had suggested
creating a bet that ensured a win as long as no
goal was scored in the first 10 minutes.
Spread Betting
The Spread betting forecast was for a buy of
the "Fat Lady" market (81st -90th minute
only: 15pts/goal, 3pts/corner, 15pts/red card,
3pts/yellow - all pts doubled in the 88th minute).
The opening quote stood at 18-21 and any buyers
at this price would have netted a 27point profit.
Buyers of the market would have been trying to
calm David Beckham from their armchairs in the
80th minute. However once the clock ticked into
the 81st minute, shouts for him to make a rash
challenge would have been heard from long and
far.
The card did not appear, but instead a succession
of corners followed from both teams. Five corners
before the 86th minute guaranteed at worst only
a small loss for buyers. Each corner worth 3pts,
gave a running total of 15, just 6pts away from
the opening quote (21)
Then in the minute that mattered most (88th),
Fowler popped up to score. The goal, worth only
15pts at any other time, became 30pts. One more
corner for good measure followed, settling the
market at 48.
The Fat Lady had plenty to sing about and so
did her buyers!
