The first of ten One-Dayers begins with a day-nighter at Trent Bridge between England and Sri Lanka. The home team are not surprisingly the strong favourites at 4/6 to open their account with a victory. The Sri Lankans minus Murali are 6/4 to beat England for the first time this summer.
There have been four day night matches staged previously in England – interestingly the winning team on three occasions has been the one to bat first. However, we shouldn’t read too much into this statistic given the small sample.
Other betting markets available for the match include as normal top batsman and top bowler from either side. The usual suspects can be found at the top of the lists. Thorpe and Trescothick are the 4/1 favourites to be top England bat, although Nick Night at 9/2 is sure to attract a fair amount of backers.
The talented left hander has played over 70 times for his country and can boast an average of over 40, which in limited overs cricket is a superb effort. Marcus Trescothick on the other hand only averages in the mid thirties despite being regarded as one of England’s top batsman in both forms of the game.
What is even more impressive about Nick Knight is his average jumps to the mid fifties in one-day internationals for home Internationals. At a best price of 7/2, Knight looks worth investing a few pennies in. |
